Tokyo Game Show 2026 Celebrates 30 Years With Web Portal Launch, Creators Lounge, and Global Ambassadors

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has officially kicked off the one-month countdown to Tokyo Game Show 2026, unveiling a huge slate of special events, guest appearances, and anniversary celebrations as one of gaming’s biggest shows marks its 30th year.

First held in 1996, Tokyo Game Show has grown into one of the world’s premier gaming events. Hosted annually at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba, just outside central Tokyo, the show has become the stage where Japanese publishers, global studios, hardware manufacturers, and indie developers come together to showcase the future of gaming. Whether it’s a major AAA reveal, hands-on demos of upcoming releases, or the latest advances in gaming technology, TGS has a reputation for delivering moments that gaming fans talk about for months afterwards.

As someone who has always wanted to attend, this year’s event is particularly exciting. I’ll already be in Japan on a family holiday, and the timing couldn’t have worked out much better. The public days fall neatly across the September long weekend, making it the perfect opportunity to spend a day exploring the show floor. Although, if I’m being honest, I’m already trying to work out whether I can stretch that into two days. Looking at the size of the event and everything planned for the 30th anniversary celebration, one day might not be enough.

Running from 17 to 21 September 2026 across Makuhari Messe and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall, Tokyo Game Show 2026 is expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors from around the world. With major exhibitors, special stage events, esports competitions, guest appearances, and anniversary activities planned throughout the week, it is shaping up to be one of the largest and most significant editions of the show to date.

Below is a complete overview of what visitors can expect, including featured attractions, special guests, scheduled activities, and ticket options for those planning to attend.

Key Highlights & 30th Anniversary Features

  • 30th Anniversary Website & Trivia Game: The newly launched anniversary site showcases a 30-year interactive timeline and past event poster galleries. Visitors can also test their knowledge on the “CESA Game Certification” trivia game.
