Wacom Movink 13 – A Compact Marvel for Creatives

It has not been easy in the mid-range drawing tablet market with so many amazing offerings hitting the market for amateurs & professionals alike. But drawing tablet royalty, Wacom, have something  special up its sleeve to show the other mid-range options a thing or two.

But will it live up to the hype? well join me as I look at the new Wacom Movink 13!

Design and Performance

In a word, Sleek!

The Wacom Movink 13 is fitted with a 13.3-inch Samsung OLED panel featuring a Full HD resolution. The screen will not only bring deeper blacks but allow for broader spectrum of colours; it will also be capable of giving a stunning contrast ratio of 100,000:1 for enhanced clarity and colour accuracy. Creatives can take advantage of a faster response time for an OLED, reducing pen latency to under one millisecond for more precise and fluid input. This tablet will have Apple lovers rethinking that new much-anticipated OLED iPad.

At just 420 grams and with a thickness, I’m not sure if thickness is the right word, as it ranges from 4 to 6.6mm. The Movink 13 truly redefines portability. Compared to its LED counterparts, it leverages OLED technology to eliminate backlighting, which not only prevents light leakage but also reduces heat buildup. As my old Wacom used to be a nightmare in Summer, if I was drawing (poorly) at a café or on my old balcony, it would get quite surprisingly hot & pen latency became more noticeable the warmer it got!

Compatibility and Connectivity

The Wacom Movink 13 is marketed as a professional-grade device, but after seeing my friend’s Wacom Cintiq Pro 27, I wondered how this compact model could compare to its larger counterpart. My friend described it as “game changing,” especially since he travels frequently. The ability to connect it to his laptop or even his phone whenever inspiration strikes is a significant advantage.

The Movink 13’s versatility is one of its strongest features, as it supports a wide range of platforms, including Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Android. It uses a single USB-C cable for both power and data transfer, with an additional USB-C port available for extra power if needed. This makes it a convenient option for users who are often on the move.

Stylus and Accessories

The Pro Pen 3 is designed specifically for the Movink 13, guaranteeing smooth compatibility and top-notch performance. Its slim design makes it comfortable to hold during extended creative work, helping to minimize hand strain. The enhanced visibility of the nib allows for precise stroke placement on the tablet, making it ideal for sketching, painting, or editing. The Pro Pen 3 delivers a natural and highly responsive experience.

Beyond just compatibility with the Pro Pen 3, the Movink 13 also supports other pen technologies. Wacom’s widely-used Pro Pen 2 works effortlessly with this tablet, and it even supports select third-party styluses. This flexibility gives artists the freedom to choose the stylus that best matches their creative needs and preferences.

Ergonomics and Additional Features

While the tablet itself is designed in a minimalistic way, with the inclusion of only two user-customizable buttons. Users who would like more creative control can team the tablet up with the separately sold Wacom ExpressKey Remote—a little, ultra-compact accompanying device that adds a variety of optional, additional programmable buttons to the experience for quick access to favorite tools and commands that enable a creative workflow. Though I did not get a chance to use one myself, I can see the usefulness of it. I personally found, due to its ability to travel, I just used the on-screen shortcuts directly on the tablet.

You can also get foldable stand; That could be a great addition for those who prefer working at adjustable angles. Though not bundled with the tablet, it is still a very nice accessory, helping you to support an ergonomic stance and lessen the strain to keep you drawing for longer.

Conclusion

Among the saturated mid-range drawing tablet markets, the Wacom Movink 13 makes for a very potent case for itself among both beginners and pros alike. Its slick design, vibrant OLED display, and impressive portability come as a serious contender against it biggest rival the new OLED iPad. Coupled with versatile connectivity, wide platform support, and compatibility with various styluses including the new Pro Pen 3 and the favourite of most artists, the Pro Pen 2, the Movink 13 offers a highly tailored and sensitive creative experience for artists of all skill level.

Although its minimalistic design may seem a bit too simple at first sight, the possibility of increasing its functionality by adding accessories such as the ExpressKey Remote and foldable stand makes this interface device suitable for different working styles. Be it home, cafe, or on the move, Wacom Movink 13 is an ultra-compact device that can easily match the creative demands of any place.

The Wacom Movink 13 makes a bold statement, showcasing Wacom’s unwavering ability to innovate and maintain its leadership in an increasingly competitive market.
