The release of 10th edition Warhammer 40,000 includes a whole new way to play the ever-popular tabletop wargame – Combat Patrol. This has proven to be a great way to start collecting and learning the game, as well as a way for veterans to try a new faction or army by buying a single boxset.
It’s been a stable for my gaming group to test the waters in the new edition, learn the gameplay for our factions and feed the need for more plastic crack.
Hachette Partworks has also been a gateway to collecting and learning more about the worlds of Warhammer. The magazine subscription has brought us Warhammer 40,000: Conquest, which introduced 8th edition and lead to the launch of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Mortal Realms. For 9th edition Warhammer 40,000: Imperium brought us a combine force of the Empire forces (Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus and Sisters of Batter) against the Necrons. The latest collection brought us back to the mortal realms with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Stormbringer.
Warhammer 40,000: Combat Patrol will introduce players to 10th edition and will include nine, YES NINE factions in the form of Combat Patrols.
The factions include most of the fan favourites, each faction will have a complete playable Combat Patrol by the end of the subscription.
- Space Marines
- Tyranids
- Leagues of Votann
- Aeldari
- Astra Militarum
- Genestealer Cults
- Orks
- Chaos Space Marines
- World Eaters
True to form for the other partworks you will also get a good range of paint and if a subscriber a range of tools and other useful items.
Premium subscribers will also receive additional miniatures for eight of the nine factions.
These include some really great models across the range, although it will increase the costs per issue. This also may not be available in all regions, for instance there was no premium for Australia for Imperium (sadface).
- Premium Kit 1 contains a Space Marine Brutalis Dreadnought and a Tyranid Hive Tyrant.
- Premium Kit 2 contains a Chaos Daemon Prince and some Aeldari Howling Banshees.
- Premium Kit 3 contains three Brôkhyr Thunderkyn and three Ork Killa Kanz.
- Premium Kit 4 contains the Genestealer Cults Broodcoven as well as the Astra Militarum Rogal Dorn tank.
Hatchette Partworks has announced this as a trial and will only be available in the UK. Based on the success, or not, of this trial will tell if the full subscription will be released. When the rest of the world will be able to access is also not known at this stage.
When we learn more, we will update you in the meantime…
Have you bought one of these partworks before? Will you sign up for Combat Patrol? Which faction are you most interested in? I’m keen for Votann, Space Marine and Tyranids (they are the three factions I am currently collecting).
