Muffin Time – The Utterly Unpredictable Card Game Review

What time is it? It’s Muffin Time!

Muffin Time promises completely chaotic gameplay with twists & turn. Can the brilliantly absurd minds behind asdfmovie really make a card game? We are about to find out!

How to Play:

First Impression

I hate admitting this, but I actually love party games. I know it is a weird thing to hear a reviewer say, as they are often seen as incredibly simple. Yet I love them for everything they are, simple fun & they are incredibly welcoming for all gamers both new & old.

I’m excited to see if Muffin Time is just all hype of a well-known brand or if asdfmovie & Big Potatoes games have a hit on their hands!

Game Play

Still being in lockdown isolation, it is a hard place to have a party but luckily my new neighbors are awesome. We got together over their massive dining room table (Seriously, I wish they would let me take a photo of it, it’s like 8 feet long) & took Muffin time for a spin.

After watching the ‘How to’ video & reading through the rules quickly, I was excited. It seemed like a sort of reverse Uno, for the more developed mind with fun and crazy real-world events. It’s a very clever game, actually, it is probably one of the most well-thought-out party games I’ve played.

And this is all down to the trap cards.

The Trap cards bring real-world elements and watching and picking up how players pass the time when bored or their current mood…… Or knowing that I was really tired & making me discard 4 cards every second dam turn! Not bitter at all! Ha ha ha

Art

The art of Muffin Time is amazing. It’s whacky, fun & hilarious! I love the simple use of low detailed, black, and white cartoon art, with the only color being the card type indicator. It makes it so easy to see the type of card, even from 8 feet away. It is a beautiful design element that is extremely simple, yet perfect in its design.

Final Thoughts

Over the years, I have brought plenty of Party Games to my friends, most have been an ‘experience’ to say the least. So I am always nervous to bring a party game to the table, but when they are hits, they are some of my favorite games to play. I loved Muffin Time & am so looking forward to being able to play this even more over summer after all isolation craziness is over.

The ease of play mixed with the challenging, entertaining & hilarious gameplay is going to make Muffin Time a staple for all parties!

A massive thank you to the team at VR Distribution for sending me a copy of Muffin Time, head over to website & get yourself a copy of this awesome party game from one of their many stockists!
