Interview with Nexon’s Development Team for Phenomenon MMORPG, V4

As a fan of MMORPG, I’m always excited when a new one comes out & had heard some really great things about Nexon’s V4. The excitement of a new world to explore and adventures to be had gets my juices flowing. But also like most MMORPG fans, I get nervous to play a new MMORPG, as many miss that mark & fall flat…. then they dropped this Teaser back in June & I knew this wasn’t one of those & would be something special.

From stunning art & character design, the beautiful balance between light & dark, the depth of the story & the fact it was cross-platform; This MMORPG had me excited. To the point, I normally play a good or light character & connect more with them. But the Dark Mage in the teaser has me wanting to be bad! As bad looks so good.

Yet I wanted to know more, I wanted to get into the minds of those that knew more & felt there was only one group of people to ask. Nexon’s Development Team.

So I that is exactly what I did, I sat down with Nexon’s Development team for what I believe could be the next big MMORPG on the market:

Q: We’ll start with an easy one. Can you tell us more about this magical world and the backstory for V4?

A: V4 tells the story of the once idyllic Syllunas, a paradisal world that is now threatened by the forces of darkness and corruption. Players will join the fight as part of The Alliance as they aim to defend their world from those who seek everlasting power in the form of raising an all-powerful demonic being.

In V4’s Syllunas, founder King Eldon united the continent, creating the Polarion Kingdom. He made his 5 most trusted allies the lords of each dominion: Zikus, Roxon, Fanden, Brellan, and Shurion. Originally a virtuous and united lot, time passed and lordships passed on to new generations, each one more corrupt than the last. At some point, demons from the Batra dimension invaded Polarion, creating the need for a new class of hero – the demon hunter.

Q: What differentiates V4 with other MMORPGs is the diverse choices for a character class & customization. Can you tell us about the different classes & which is your favorite?

A: There are six character classes within the game each which have their own defining attribute they bring to the battle:

  • Enchantress (F) – Uses a staff to cast deadly magic.
  • Warlord (M) – Uses his steel gauntlets and a massive hammer to attack and deal devastating damage.
  • Slayer (M) – Dual wields a two-handed sword as well as a short one-handed sword.
  • Knight (F) – Wielding her sword and shield, she grows stronger as the fight wears on.
  • Gunslinger (F) – Deals ranged attacks using dual-wielded pistols and a rifle.
  • Boomblade (F) – Despite looking younger in age, she uses a powerful axe/shotgun combo.

Q: Companions are an aspect I haven’t seen anything like this utilized in an MMORPG. Can you tell me a little more about them?

A: In V4, companions are your allies. Players can dispatch them to perform different duties such as Hunting, Gathering, Region Conquests, and Named Conquests. Each companion has different effects and for example, can gain your stats based on their type and grade. Ultimately, the more companions you have, the stronger you become.

Q: What makes V4 different from other MMORPGs in your opinion?

A: V4 introduces western players to an MMORPG with a large-scale multiplayer environment and dense story using Unreal Engine 4’s cutting edge technology, which allows for players on both mobile and PC to experience the open-world phenomenon. By making the title available on both PC and mobile, it allows us to cater to players who are interested in new gaming experiences and pushes the limits of what has been previously thought possible for MMORPGs on mobile.

Q: In the coming years, how would you like to see V4 evolve? What would you like to see added to the world? Or which direction would you like the game to take?

A: We’ve started planning updates to the main storyline and added a new region to mark one-month since our global launch. We also plan to periodically add new regions, bosses, and content.

Our goal is to add new regions, classes, and other content to make V4 enjoyable for years to come. For now, keep an eye out for new classes like the Archer, realm bosses, and PvP updates. Ultimately, our hope is for V4 to grow with our players.

Q: MMORPGs consist of such expansive and highly detailed worlds. What has been the biggest challenge while making V4?

A: As you mentioned, MMORPGs involve a complex system of in-game elements and player interactions. We prepared for this well in advance, but as you may know, once a game goes live everything can change. The most difficult part about developing and servicing V4 was analyzing player reactions in real-time to quickly resolve them while simultaneously preparing for large-scale updates.

When it comes to PvP, even a small adjustment can cause big changes in the rankings. While it’s important to quickly fix issues and provide improvements, it’s not easy to determine just how much of an adjustment needs to be made so that it’s not overly disruptive to the gameplay.

Q: Lastly, with the hard question, what is your preferred weapon? Sword & shield, dagger, bow, gun or magic?

A: Our team is split when it comes to choosing a favorite. Each weapon has its own distinct appearance and skill-based on its respective class. We also do try to keep all of our classes balanced so it’s too tough to choose a favorite.
