As the city teeters on the brink of chaos, seasoned investigator Alquist Proft joins forces with the Ravnican Agency of Magicological Investigations and some new recruits.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to unravel the web of secrets that enshrouds Karlov Manor, a place eerily reminiscent of the Old Melbourne Gaol. The murderer remains elusive, leaving behind a trail of cryptic clues and arcane residue.
First Night in Gaol
Since Alquist Proft couldn’t be present himself, he entrusted his two most trusted investigators: the remarkably talented & not coincidence named duo, Merlock and Blotson. Together, they led us into the Old Melbourne Gaol (an extraordinary setting for a Murder Mystery event). Before us lay a chilling tableau framed by the unyielding bluestone walls, adorned with the accused who stood charged with murder. Armed with our investigation devices, three packets of play boosters, and a pre-release pack, we took our seats and let the investigation commence.
Murders at Karlov Manor mechanics
The set introduces new and returning mechanics, adding depth to the gameplay. Here are some key features:
- Investigating for Clues: Players can gather clues to solve the mystery. These clues lead to hidden secrets and unexpected twists.
- Cases to Be Solved: Each card represents a case waiting to be cracked open. As you play, you’ll unravel the threads of the overarching mystery.
- Creatures to Disguise: Some creatures can transform or take on different identities. Unmasking them is essential to solving the crimes.
- High-Profile Citizens: The case involves prominent figures from Ravnica. Interrogate them for information and uncover their involvement.
The set also introduces intriguing characters like Kaya (with her spirit-related skills) and Kellan (continuing from his adventures in Eldraine and Ixalan). Together, they form a team working to solve the plane-wide mystery. The tension builds as all eyes turn to the evidence, and the race to catch the murderer intensifies.
Media Night Unravels Murders at Karlov Manor
Amidst the courtyard’s hushed anticipation, content creators and media figures trickled in, their presence a prelude to the unfolding mystery. The room, dimly lit, exuded an air of spookiness—a perfect setting for an intense game of Magic: The Gathering. Our drafting group assembled, and I relished the chance to flaunt my drafting prowess. Said prowess was questioned several time by my so called friend & Attack on Cardboard’s, Tom. If I managed to win as many games as Tom claims, why on earth would you pass on that card? I’d be on my way to winning a Grand Prix! After completing my Red Black Blue deck, I found that it had turned out surprisingly well. Fortunately, not having to face Tom allowed me to go unbeaten for the night.
Amidst the flowing food and drinks, our mission to uncover a murderer was guided by the astute minds of Investigator Merlock and Blotson. As we delved into the night, inching closer to the truth with each clue discovered, some remained steadfast in our pursuit for justice. While the rest of us cared little for the clues and focused more on the cards. But despite the distractions, we were able unmask the culprit and restore peace to the manor. Or did we?
Unveiling the Artistic Intrigue of Murders at Karlov Manor
Normally, I’m not one to comment much on the art, but Murder at Kralov Manor is an exception. Possibly my favorite art of any Magic: The Gathering set, it immerses players in a world of grim dark and supernatural aesthetics. The haunting allure of this macabre realm is vividly portrayed in the set. Each art card transports us to a place where shadows cling to every corner, and malevolent secrets lurk beneath the surface. From the spiked cages and spheres outside to the stained-glass Rakdos icons in the windows. Not forgetting the cluedo like clues; brilliantly conceived and executed, adding an extra layer of depth and intrigue to the set.

As we reflect on the thrilling journey through the heart of Ravnica’s mysteries, one thing remains clear: the captivating artistry of this set, combined with its immersive gameplay mechanics, ensures an unforgettable experience for Magic: The Gathering players old and new.
