The Allfather has new Space Wolves champions

There were many announcements from Games Workshop at Adeption 2025 but one in particular caught my (and editor Dez’) eye are the Space Wolves.

Space Wolves

The new army set provides a great start or addition to any budding wolf.

  • 10 Blood Claws
  • 10 Grey Hunters
  • 3 Wolf Guard Headtakers with loyal wolf companions
  • A Wolf Guard Battle Leaders
  • A Wolf Priest (a combination of Chaplain and Apothecary)
  • Codex: Space Wolves

That’s a pretty decent force and will certainly fill out our current army or be a perfect starter for a new project.

Let’s delve deeper into each of the squads.

Blood Claws

The impetuous Blood Claws are neophytes who cut their teeth as assault troops. Where other Chapters temper new recruits in Scout Companies, the Space Wolves prefer to channel this youthful aggression into vicious close quarters assault. In the Space Wolves neophytes are not pampered but forged in the fire of battle.

Grey Hunters

Once they’ve worked out their natural ferocity and earned a modicum of discipline, they are assigned to a Grey Hunters pack. These more experienced troops carry lighter bolt carbines into battle so they can fire on the move, always closing on their foe until they can get into close combat. You will need a certain playing type to take advantage of the close quarters nature of the Space Wolves – the Grey Hunters will need to get up the board fast and be ready to charge into melee.

SW Grey Hunters

Wolf Guard Headtakers

The Wolf Guard are the Chapter’s greatest veteran warriors, who can fulfill a variety of roles – including wearing precious suits of Terminator armour. Some are selected as Headtakers, especially those who retain their youthful energy, charging down the toughest foes with packs of loyal wolf companions. I love the fact you can run the Wolf independently  to the Headtakers. Giving you two units designed for very close and personal attacks.

SW Guard Headtakers

Wolf Guard Battle Leader

Wolf Guard Battle Leaders are field commanders who hold roughly the same rank and duties as the Lieutenants of the more Codex-compliant Chapters. They can take a range of weaponry and come with various cosmetic options. Space Wolves are a very heavily into bare-headed minis, better get your face painting up to spec!

SW Wolf Guard Battle Leader

Wolf Priest

The duties of both Chaplains and Apothecaries are handled by sombre Wolf Priests, who form a vital part of the Space Wolves’ cultural hierarchy both as storytellers and healers. They are terrifying to behold on the battlefield, booming excerpts from great sagas over the dim of battle while glaring out from behind their chilling wolf skull helmets. The lore for the Wolf Priest is really well represented here. I’ve read a few Wolf focused 40K novels and love the role these important figure play. This would be a fun mini to paint into your own style, lots of great options for alternative builds as well. You can truly make this your own.

SW Wolf Priest

All the miniatures above are included in the updated Codex: Space Wolves, which will come packed with background lore, miniature galleries and data sheets for 20 unique units. Everything a growing Wolf Cub needs to field there army.

I know that our editor at large Dez will want these but what about you. Are you looking forward to this new army set to build up your forces or start a new army?
