The Ultimate Ears Miniroll is a stylish and functional compact Bluetooth speaker, perfect for those who appreciate both aesthetics and practicality. It comes in a variety of appealing colors, including Black, Grey, Blue, and my personal favorite, Pink with green accents.
With dimensions of 4.83 x 4.13 x 1.9 inches and a weight of just 280 grams, this speaker is incredibly portable. I recently brought it along to a picnic, and its lightweight design made it so easy to carry that I almost forgot I had it. When I remembered, we attached it to the umbrella with the included strap on the back and enjoyed some great music.
The Miniroll is also IP67 rated, making it water and dust-resistant, ideal for outdoor use. We tested this durability with a stray gridiron ball and a jug of juice, and thankfully, it held up perfectly. I don’t recommend testing your Miniroll like this, but it was nice to know that it is durable enough handle real life accidents.
Sound Quality
Despite its small size, the Miniroll delivers impressive audio performance. It features a 45.6mm active driver and a 37.75 x 65mm passive radiator, providing a robust bass response that can easily fill a room or picnic area. At around 85% volume, Dasha’s Austin had us singing and dancing. Even with eight of us singing along, the Miniroll’s clear sound shone through, highlighting our love for the song over our horrible singing abilities.
However, at higher volumes, the bass can cause slight rattling, which may slightly affect some peoples listening experience. This seems to be a common issue with many speakers I’ve reviewed or used, as none perform at their best at 100% volume.
Overall, the sound is far crisper and clearer than I expected from such a small, lightweight speaker like the Ultimate Ears Miniroll. While it excels in more intimate settings like bedrooms or small rooms, don’t hesitate to take it to larger outdoor spaces either, as this little speaker has a lot to give.
Features
One of the standout features of the Miniroll is its support for Bluetooth 5.3, providing a strong and stable connection with a range of up to 130 feet; which is shorter than the trip from my bedroom, to the front of our townhouses (8 in total) to get a package from the gate. Teddy Swims’ Lose Control played, on repeat, the whole time I was talking to the driver; much to the annoyance of my housemate. That was on the 4 playthrough of the song by the time I returned.
The speaker also supports Auracast, allowing multiple Minirolls to be paired together for a synchronized audio experience—though it’s limited to Ultimate Ears products only- this is an amazing feature. I could see two or three of these portable inexperience speaker put up around a garden for those upcoming summer parties! I don’t own another Ultimate Ears device so am unable to comment on how easy or hard this is to set up; yet from my readings, it isn’t hard & a great feature.
One of my favourite features, is the up to 12 hours of battery life, the Miniroll can easily power through a day’s worth of listening or a a whole day fishing. As Big J and I found out while sitting at Lake Wombat, enjoying some tunes while helping the environment by ridding the lake of redfin.
One thing I wish the Miniroll had was a companion app or a way to customization the EQ settings. As Jelly Roll & Teddy Swims is very different to Shinedown & Breaking Benjamin; and could have benefited from some minor adjustments to the EQ.
Usability
As mentioned earlier the Miniroll is designed with portability in mind, and the included carry strap adds to its convenience while not making it cumbersome or take away from the sleek ascetic.
Whether you’re hanging it on an umbrella or the leg of your fishing chair, the Miniroll is designed to be versatile. It’s also reasonably priced at currently on sale at JB Hi-fi for $10 off RRP at $89.99, making it an affordable option for those looking for a reliable, stylish and most importantly, portable Bluetooth speaker.
Conclusion
Overall, the Ultimate Ears Miniroll is a fantastic option for anyone in need of a portable and affordable Bluetooth speaker. It offers impressive sound quality for its size, robust portability, and an attractive design, leaves little to not love about it.
While it does have some minor limitations or feature I wish it had, its pros far outweigh the cons. And for the price its hard to go wrong with this little beauty. Whether you are using it personal use or small gatherings or background music for picnic at a park, the Miniroll is a solid choice that won’t break the bank.
