Get Fit Fast: Nintendo Fitness Boxing 3 Keep Punching!

We’re super excited to share our first Nintendo Switch game reviews on DezDoes, and what better way to start than with Fitness Boxing 3: Rhythm & Exercise? As an avid boxer myself, and with the cost of living getting more challenging, many of us are looking for home fitness options. That’s exactly what Fitness Boxing 3 claims to offer—a simple yet effective way to get moving without needing extra gear. Plus, if you’re on a budget, it’s a great way to keep those boxing sessions going and work on your skills.

With some boxing experience under my belt, I was curious to see how well this game holds up compared to having a trainer yelling and pushing you to your limits. So, will Fitness Boxing 3: Rhythm & Exercise help us achieve our dream body, or will it knock us down to the mat?

Gameplay & Mechanics

Fitness Boxing 3 guides you through all the punches—jabs, straights, hooks, and uppercuts—with on-screen prompts. If you’re not familiar with these terms, don’t worry! The game teaches you each move and also tracks your footwork to keep you in the right position.

Unlike Ring Fit, which relies on its fancy accessory, Fitness Boxing 3 just needs your existing Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Cons. The game tracks your movements and gives feedback to help you improve over time. It’s like having a mini coach in your living room, minus the yelling and spitting. And let’s be honest, who needs more yelling & spitting in their life?

With a few years of boxing under my belt, I found the stance and movements easy to adapt to and even several pointers to tighten my stance. It’s a a breath of fresh air in-between sessions, allowing me to get in extra session and much easier on the wallet.

Are you a Beginners and worried you need experience to play this game? You haven’t been left behind either—the game offers step-by-step guidance on posture and execution, making it accessible to newcomers while still challenging for those looking to fine-tune their skills. So whether you’re a seasoned boxer or just trying to throw your first punch without hitting the lamp or breaking your hand, Fitness Boxing 3 has got you covered.

And let’s talk about the instructors. They’re well-animated and provide encouraging feedback, adding a personal trainer-like experience. You can even customise your trainer a bit after using them a few times. It’s like having a workout buddy who never gets tired or complains of gets frustrated when you are still doing it wrong after the 15th time.

The soundtrack features upbeat, rhythm-based tracks that really get you moving and complement the workout sessions well. However, a wider variety of songs would have been nice. And seriously, not a single version of Eye of the Tiger? Come on, that’s like a boxing workout anthem! Maybe they’ll add it in the next update?

Workout Experience

So, does it provide a solid workout? As this is the most important part

You bet it does! You can customise your workout to skip any muscle group you want. Want to focus on cardio, strength, or endurance? No worries— Fitness Boxing 3: Rhythm & Exercise has you covered & can be as customisable as you would like it to be.

The structured workouts are well-designed and gradually ramp up in intensity, just like a trainer pushing you to dig deeper. Each movement is synced with the music to keep your flow going and your feet moving. Plus, the game features daily workout tracking to help you stay consistent and see your progress over time.

Controls & Motion Tracking

First things first, make sure you use the wrist straps for your Joy-Cons to avoid any accidents, shoutout to my armchair for catching the first flying Joy-Con from a left hook. I don’t think that accident effected the detection, as Joy-Cons generally do a good job of detecting punches, but there can be occasional inconsistencies or minor dropouts. While not a dealbreaker, it might be a bit frustrating if you’re aiming for perfect scores.

Remember, use the wrist straps! Throwing punches without them can be risky, as the Joy-Cons might slip from your grip during intense workouts. Even with my boxing experience, wave yourself the stress and thank you again armchair.

Graphics & Presentation

Visually, Fitness Boxing 3 has a simple and smooth style. The interface is easy to follow, and the animations are smooth, though the graphics aren’t groundbreaking. The instructors are well-animated and provide encouraging feedback, adding a personal trainer-like experience.

Pros & Cons

Pros: Cons:
Engaging and effective workout routines Motion tracking can be inconsistent at times
No additional accessories required—just Joy-Cons Limited song variety
Suitable for both beginners and experienced users
Customizable workouts to target specific fitness goals
Daily tracking for progress monitoring

Final Thoughts

Fitness Boxing 3: Rhythm & Exercise delivers an accessible and effective home workout experience for Nintendo Switch users. While the motion tracking may not be flawless, the game’s structured workouts, intuitive controls, and engaging and encouraging format make it a solid option for anyone looking to incorporate more fitness movement into their daily routine. Whether you’re a beginner or someone with boxing experience, this game provides a fun and convenient way to stay active. I myself am using this build my skills back to go back to my local boxing gym with more confidence.
