It might be the work Secret Santa or your second cousin once removed who’s suddenly RSVP’d for Christmas lunch. Or maybe you’re scrambling for a stocking filler because you’ve just realised your gift list is… shall we say… a little more extravagant than your partner’s. Finding gifts under $20 that aren’t plastic throw-away rubbish can feel like searching for a unicorn.
But don’t worry, affordable doesn’t have to mean boring. With a little creativity, you can find clever, useful, and even stylish gifts that show thought without breaking the bank. From quirky gadgets to practical everyday helpers, these picks prove that small budgets can still deliver big smiles.

For the miniature hobbyist in your life, a flexible sanding twig might not sound like much, but trust us, it could change their world. Perfect for removing mould lines or tidying up plastic models, this often-overlooked tool is low cost but delivers high rewards.
You’ll find plenty of options on sites like Amazon, or check out your friendly local gaming store (FLGS); they almost always have them in stock.
Dez

If you know someone who can’t resist pulling things apart just to see how they work, Dez is your guy. He’s the tinkerer who can’t leave a loose screw untightened or a gadget unexplored. His under-$20 must-have? A Precision Mini Screwdriver Set. Perfect for fixing glasses, opening up electronics, or tackling those tiny screws that always seem to disappear. It’s compact, versatile, and a lifesaver for anyone who loves to tinker.

I spend most days running around events, working in all kinds of conditions — from sound checks to heavy machinery creating a constant wall of noise. These earbuds are a-ma-zing. They let you have a conversation during the gig, and when you pop them out afterwards, it’s like you didn’t just spend hours in a sonic warzone.
You only get one set of ears, so protect them as best you can.

Moving up in price, we open the door to a world of possibilities for that special someone. This is the sweet spot, enough for a thoughtful stocking filler, or the perfect pick for your brother-in-law who’s notoriously hard to shop for. At this range, you can start looking at gifts that feel a little more substantial: clever gadgets, stylish accessories, or even something that sparks a new hobby.
It’s the point where practicality meets personality, and where you can give something that feels genuinely useful without blowing the budget. Whether you’re aiming for fun, function, or a little bit of both, these mid-range ideas will make sure your gift stands out under the tree.

As a (newly minted) Mac user, I have found one addition that adds so much value to my MacLifeTM. A dongle, dock, or USB-Hub. This has been an essential addition. I’d love for all my devices to shift to USB-C (I bought new cables for my portable drives for this very reason), however, not everything can be upgraded to USB-C. Hence, the need for a Hub. I went with the UGreen 5-in-1, which provides 3 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, and an HDMI port (which I don’t need since the MacBook Pro already has HDMI, but it’s a good addition).
There are plenty of alternatives in both online and brick-and-mortar stores.

As someone who loves nothing more than spending downtime with a good movie or binging TV series, yes, I’m watching Viva La Bam again (don’t ask why, I just love that series), having all my apps in one place makes the experience so much better. That’s why my under-$50 pick is the Amazon Fire TV Stick. It’s simple, powerful, and perfect for anyone who wants streaming without the hassle.
I even got my mum one last year because she and technology don’t exactly get along, and this made everything easy for her. Pair it with a Netflix or Disney+ prepaid subscription card, and you’ve got an amazing gift that will keep giving long after the holidays.

We’re stepping up in price now, and with that comes a whole new level of gifting potential. These are the kinds of presents for people you know well, the best friend who held your hair when… well, you know, or that sibling you actually still get along with (miracles do happen). At this range, you can start looking at gifts that feel genuinely special without tipping into luxury territory.
Think smart gadgets, stylish accessories, or something that taps into their hobbies and interests. It’s enough to make them smile and say, “Wow, you really nailed it,” without you needing to remortgage the house. Perfect for those relationships where you want to show you care, but still keep your bank account happy.

I’m going a little off track with this one. I’ve recently been playing around with my old Nintendo handhelds and I really think that going retro and back to the days of disconnected (from the mobile world) and needing to use a cartridge to play games. You can get a decent second-hand Nintendo DS (standard or lite) for under $100. Some even come with cases or games or similar. EBay or Facebook Marketplace or your best bet to grab a bargain.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 sitting at the top of everyone’s Christmas list, mine included, why not grab some accessories to go with it? My pick under $100 is anything from PowerA’s range of controllers and gear. I absolutely love their controllers (I think I own four now), and whether you want to rep your favourite game or just want something that looks cool, I can’t recommend them enough.
And don’t stress if Santa doesn’t bring you a Switch 2 this year, PowerA has an awesome range for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation too all under this price point. It’s the perfect way to level up your gaming setup without breaking the bank.
Check out the range here on PowerA.

I’ve already mentioned I’m always on the go, and I love gaming on the go with my Switch. But let’s be real: the onboard memory is never enough for all my games and saves. That’s why I always go for quality, and my go-to is a SanDisk MicroSD card. Reliable, fast, and built for gamers.
For that gamer who needs extra space, I recommend the SanDisk Extreme, the best bang for your buck and the performance you can trust.
Under $200
OK, this is the big league. We’re talking gifts that make a statement, the kind that say, “You mean a lot to me” without needing a diamond ring. This could be for a girlfriend, boyfriend, or partner or Favourite DezDoes Editor, who deserves something special. Or maybe it’s for that child who’s been extra good this year (and you want to lock in that good behaviour for next year too!).
At this level, you’re stepping into premium territory: sleek tech, high-quality accessories, or experiences that create lasting memories. These gifts feel indulgent without being over the top — perfect for when you want to impress without going full luxury.

You all know my love for Keychron keyboards, and for bang for buck, they offer great value. The Lemokey P1 Pro QMK is a great example of a quality mechanical keyboard in a great size and all the essentials and none of the extras (read a numpad), making it fit perfectly into your desk setup. The colour-ways are great as well, my favourite is the blue!
Also offers Keychron Super Red or Brown switches.

Okay, hear me out, Artwork. I know I might be losing you, but stay with me.
This is something I’ve wanted for years and absolutely love: framed disassembled tech art. These pieces take gadgets we’ve all spent countless hours using, controllers, phones, consoles, and turn them into stunning, detailed displays.
As a tinkerer and tech head, this is my perfect Christmas gift. There’s something fascinating about seeing what goes into the devices we use every day, laid out like a piece of art. It’s unique, personal, and guaranteed to spark conversation.
Head over to Etsy and search for “disassembled tech art,” you’ll find incredible options that range from retro consoles to modern controllers. Trust me, this is one gift that will stand out.

I’ve spent countless hours playing both in dock mode and handheld with my OG Nintendo Switch. When I saw this deal at EB Games I had to add it to this list. For $169 you can get an OG Nintendo Switch console, definitely my choice pick.
